PATRIOTIC EFFORTS MEETING OF LOCAL COMMITTEE. ("Times-Age” Special.) A meeting of the Featherston District Patriotic Committee was held in the Anzac Hall last night. There were present Mr J. W. Card (chairman), Mesdames D. H. S. Riddiford, V. Bergh. H. W. Cundy, J. G. McKenzie, G. S. Sharp, Luke-Smith. C. Lowell. I. Gordon, Miss Card, Messrs M. B. Tait,-C. W. Ritchie, J. H. King. J. A. Halpin R. R. P. Hardy and N. C. C. Shepherd (hon. secretary). Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames D. C. Collins. H. R. Bloxam. N. C. C. Shepherd, S. Raper, Q. Donald. A. S. Carlyon, J. H. King. W. Feast. J. A. Halpin, Mr A. R. Robbins, and Dr. G. S. Sharp. The financial statement showed: Receipts since last meeting (£1.000.000 appeal) £552 15s lid (total. £1,185 12s Id); Patriotic Fund Account, £6 7s 6d; Entertainment Fund Account, £8 Ils 3d; credit balance. Patriotic and Entertainment Fund Account. £ll5 18s, Accounts amounting to £l4 12s 6d were passed for payment. Votes of thanks were accorded to Mrs Riddiford .by acclamation, for the donation of a silver fox fur which had been raffled and realised the sum of £5O, and the Mesdames C. Lowell, W. Boston and the ladies who organised a concert which was the means of increasing funds for the main appeal by £34 12s. The Executive Committee is responsible for complimentary social gather-: ings and also lor the preparation of parcels for soldiers overseas.

Patriotic Appeal Donations. The following additional donations are acknowledged: Miss E. B. Viles £2; per Featherston Police, £1 3s 6d: per Mr R. R. P. Hardy (stock drive), £27 6s; total £3O 9s 6d. The total to date is £1.185 12s Id. Table Tennis. At a largely attended meeting of members of the local Table Tennis Club it was decided to combine the two ladders, ladies and men, making it a mixed competition. A match, ladies v. men, resulted in a win for the ladies.# The knitting of peggy squares is being carried out by all lady members, the men -assisting. The Kahutara-Pahautea Home Guard held a field day at Rototawai when useful work was carried out. There was a good muster at the weekly parade held on Wednesday night, when musketry exercises and physical drill were indulged. Euchre Party and Dance. A euchre party and dance is to be held in the Kaiwaiwai Hall on Saturday night. Good prizes are offered for the euchre tournament. Personal Items. Mr and Mrs H. R. Bloxam are visiting New Plymouth, and will later go on to Auckland. Mr Baker is relieving during Mr Bloxam’s absence. Miniature Rifles. The following scores were recorded on the Featherston Miniature Rifle Club's range in the last contest: —Mrs Wilson. 96; N. Castle, 92; K. McKenzie. 94; L. Rasmussen, 94; A. Cook, 99; C. Foster, 90; E. O'Neale. 98; B. Williams, 98; M. Hodder, 97; J. H. Buck, 95.
