The second war time English Derby, which was run at Newmarket today instead of at Epsom, attracted its usual world-wide interest, but the crowd, because of transport difficulties, did not exceed 50,000. as compared with the peace time half a million. Included in the 20 starters was Fairy Prince, whose owner. Mr F. T. Williams, is a prisoner of war in Germany. The following was the result: — English Derby, for three-year-old colts and fillies: IJm: Owen Tudor, 9.0 1; Morogoro, 9.0 2; Firoze Din. 9.0 3. Twenty started. Length and a half; two lengths. (Owen Tudor and Morogoro are both in the stable of Fred Darling at Beckhampton, and Darling has now trained seven Derby winners.)
