Home Nursing Classes. Home nursing classes under the auspices of the St. John Ambulance will commence in the Lecture Room, Municipal Buildings, at 7 o’clock tonight. Dr. Berney will be the lecturer. As there is a shortage of tuition books, those attending are asked to secure them from friends.

Home Guard Operations. During the period of the Home Guard operations on Sunday, between Blairlogic Junction and two miles eastward on both roads, the public is asked to keep a good look-out for members of the Home Guard and trucks which may be operating there. The exercise starts at 11 a.m., and is expected to finish at 4 p.m.

Age and Other Benefits. Payment of age benefits will be made at the Social Security Department, Dixon Street, tomorrow and on Saturday. Payments of all other benefits will be made on Monday, the day on which payment is normally due. Payment of family benefits will be made on June 25, war veterans’ allowances and universal superannuation payments on June 30, and Australian war pensions on July 1.

Home Guard Training. The Martinborough Home Guard applied to the Wairarapa Hospital Board for two stretchers to be used for training purposes. Mr Norman Lee, managing secretary, reported at yesterday’s meeting that two stretchers had been sent to the Martinborough Borough Council. It was decided to advise the Home Guard of the position and to point out that the Council was responsible for providing stretchers.

Donation of Wireless Set. The fact that Mr A. Adderson. of Devon Street, Masterton, had donated a handsome wireelss set to the board for the use of the nurses, was announced by Mr Norman Lee, managingsecretary of the Wairarapa Hospital Board, at its meeting yesterday. The set, which had been left in the Nurses’ Home, was the properly of Driver Adderson, who. with his brother, was killed on active service. Both men were employees of the board. Members of the board expressed appreciation of the generous action, and it was decided to place an inscription on the set in memory of the men.

Abolition of Night Driving. The executive of the Auckland Drivers' Union has decided to call a meeting of bus and service car drivers in the Trades Hall on Sunday to consider the effect of the new lighting restrictions. The secretary of the union, Mr L. G. Matthews, said yesterday that drivers of passenger vehicles were seriously considering suggesting that night driving be abolished in the interests o' public safety.

Theft Charge. An order suppressing the accused’s name was made by Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court this morning' when a married man was charged with the theft of a motor car wheel, tyre and tube. Mr J. K. Logan appeared for the accused. Restitution of the articles was ordered.

Grant to Malta Fund. The National Patriotic Fund Board at its meeting yesterday decided to make another grant of £2OOO to the Malta Relief Fund. A similar sum was contributed earlier in the year and was acknowledged by the Governor of Malta, who sent a cable message on behalf of the people of the island, expressing warmest gratitude for the gift. The meeting, over which his Excellency the Governor-General, Sir Cyril Newall presided, also approved of the further contribution of £lOO,OOO toward relief in Britain recommended by the recent conference of the patriotic bodies.
