The Hon. H. G. R. Mason. Minister of Education, will return to Wellington from Auckland on Monday. The Hon. H. T. Armstrong. Minister of Public Works, will return to Wellington on Tuesday from the north. Lieut. Roderick E. Fell, who has been killed in action, was the only son of Mr and Mrs Richmond Fell, of Nelson. Last night a social and dance was held in the Orange Hall. Masterton. when Private J. Fraser and Driver A. Whyte, former members of the Masterton hospital staff, were honoured. Each soldier was presented with a shaving outfit. The presentation was made on behalf of the indoor staff. Mr J. C. Carter, Christchurch, has been awarded the Medal of Merit of the Boy Scouts’ Association. Mr Carter is Assistant County Commissioner for Wolfs Cubs for the Canterbury Scout district. He has been associated with the Scout Movement since 1917 and has held various positions ranging from cubmaster to district cubmaster. Pilot Officer Haydon Hugh James Miller, who recently was awarded the Flying Cross for bravery in air operations, is the only son of Mr Hugh Miller, who was born at •■Fernlands.” Bideford. Mr Hugh Miller left the Masterton district about 1910 to take up farming in the Waikato. Subsequently his son lived at Lansdowne with his parents for a period of two years. Pilot Officer Miller is a nephew of Mr F. J. Miller, of Mt Bruce. A Dunedin Press Association message reports that the death occurred last night of Mr Peter McSkimming, a former M.P. for the Clutha electorate. Mr McSkimming arrived in New Zealand from Scotland in 1878 and was educated in Otago. Later, after some years of experience in brick and pipe works, he, with his father, took over the works of John Nelson, and they were developed in many directions. Mr McSkimming was a member and officebearer of the Presbyterian Church. In commercial life he had been chairman of directors of a number of important companies.
