! MEETING AT GLADSTONE ’■ PARCELS PACKED FOR TROOPS. I — ■j BEST BLOOM COMPETITION, ("Times-Age" Special.) At the first meeting of the year held ■by the Gladstone Women's Institute ■ the hall presented a busy scene as inj stead of having a talk or demonstra- | lion, members worked at packing par--1 cels for the troops or making warm quills of "baggy squares." These quilts are very warm and decorative. I and cost, nothing, being made up of : four inch square bags tilled with wash|ed and well teased wool. Mrs S. i Smith was congratulated on the ex- ■ eellence of the handkerchiefs she had i made for the parcels, white material I dyed khaki, producing satisfactory re- ! suits. A letter was read from a solI diet- in the Near East thanking the In- ' stitute for a parcel which had been : forwarded. The business transacted during the l afternoon included the re-election of ; delegates for the Federation Council meeting, a decision to nominate Mrs i S. Smith for the Federation Council, ! and a discussion of the proposed visit i of Miss Cocks-Johnston.

In the competition for the best bloom. Mrs Bradley was placed first and Mrs Job!in second.

Mrs Wellwood and her helpers were in charge of afternoon tea.
