WASTE PAPER
COLLECTION IN PRINCIPAL CITIES. COUNTRY AREAS EXCLUDED. Although a vigorous campaign is being prosecuted in the four principal New Zealand cities for the collection of waste paper it is unlikely anything will be done in Mastcrton or in other country areas, owing to the cost of transport involved in delivering the paper to the nearest centre. It appears that paper from Mastcrton and the Wairarapa district generally would have to be delivered free in Wellington before it could be considered an economic proposition, in the meantime, the collection of paper is confined to the principal cities.
It may become necessary later on to collect al towns within reasonable distance of the main ports, if quantities collected should fall short of the ability of the market to absorb supplies. If this position should arise, the whole position will be reviewed.
