4 URGENT PROBLEMS RAISED BY WAR FARMERS' UNION DISCUSSION. SHIPPING & PHOSPHATE SUPPLIES. Measures which should be taken immediately to meet recent developments in the war situation were discussed this morning, at a meeting of the Wairarapa Provincial Executive of the New Zealand Farmers' Union. The following recommendations arc to be .made to the Government:- — (is That all steps possible be token to ensure a quick, turn round of shipping. <2l That more stringent control should be imposed on enemy aliens in New Zealand. <3) That cool storage in New Zealand be increased. (4> That an investigation be made to ascertain whether there are any phosphate deposits in the Dominion which <.'o'ild be vi-ononiienliy opened up <)• That the serpentine deposits in lhe Dominion be opened up and used to the fullest extent in the manufacture of manures. *6i Th.it the collection of bones be undertaken in towns and cilic . for the malting of boncdusi. The Provincial President. Mr Hugh Morrison, said it was imperative that arlion should be taken without delay to ollscl lhe elfect of our shipping looses and of the shelling of the phosphate plant on Nauru Island.
