COUP IN THAILAND
SAID TO BE CONTEMPLATED
BY JAPAN SOUTHERN AGGRESSION PLANS. DEMANDS FOR SOUTHERN BASES IN INDO-CHINA. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) HONG KONG, December 29. Authoritative sources in Hanoi allege that a Japanese plan has been disclosed for a coup d’etat in Thailand coincidental with increased Japanese pressure for bases in southern IndolChina. It is said that four Japanese on route to Bangkok on a goodwill mission had been instructed to organise the coup d’etat through the Thai army, which received 33 pursuit planes and 25 bombers from Japan early in December. The* steamer Bangkok Maru is leported to be en route to Bangkok with 950 tons of munitions and guns. Another ship is said to be sailing from Japan shortly carrying tanks. Japanese “tourists” in southern IndoChina are increasing rapidly and are seeking to penetrate the French military zones in Cambodia and Laos.
