Bombs crashed round a south of England hospital as a major operation was ending. The hospital staff calmly called up emergency ambulances, and arranged for the removal of patients. And Sergeant Arthur Hammond, of Ramsey, Isle of Man, who had just left the operating table, woke up again to find himself 200 miles away, in Yorkshire. When they explained things to him. his only comment was: “Well. Hint’s one air raid I missed.”
