WELFARE LEAGUE

MEETING IN MASTERTON. ACTIVITIES FOR SEPTEMBER. The monthly meeting of the Women’s National Welfare League was held at the Midland Hotel. Masterton, yesterday afternoon. Those present were: Mrs Kummer (in the chair), Mesdames A. W. McKenzie, R. C. Drummond, E. J. Coleman, W. Andrew. F. Reynolds, S. Fletcher, T. F. Watson, S. J. Munn, H. P. Glen, H. P. Harrison, McCracken, S.M. Kilgour, and Misses Beiliss and Wilson. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Tolhurst, H. E. Pither, L. Hunter and Misses Cameron and Boddington. A letter of thanks was received from Mr Twomey, secretary of the Makogai Leper Fund, for a donation of 30s. Miss Beiliss reported that two visits had been paid to the Public Hospital during September. Tea was supplied to No. 6 ward on each visit and cakes, flowers and reading matter to other wards. A letter is to be sent to the knitting circle of the Red Cross Society for a gift of hospital theatre stockings. The visitors for October will be Mrs Drummond and Miss Beiliss and Mesdames McKenzie, Hunter and Miss Kummer. It was decided to visit the Buchanan Home on October 22. Mrs A. W. McKenzie reported on social welfare cases attended to during the month. Clothing, groceries and boots had been supplied to necessitous cases. A letter of sympathy is to be sent to Mrs J. M. Coradine wishing her a speedy recovery from her illness. •
