WAIRARAPA RACING CLUB MEETING OF STEWARDS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the stewards of the Wairarapa Racing Club was held on Thursday, Mr J. W. Card (president) presiding over a good attendance. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs D. C. Collins, W. Howard Booth, R. A. Donald, W. J. Martin and E. D. Martin. The receipts since the last meeting were reported to amount to £lB2 2s 2d. Accounts passed for payment totalled £59 15s. In reply to a letter from the club, the Defence Department advised that the racecourse and buildings would be given up on December 1, and would be required again on January 6. The programme for the New Year meeting (showing an increase of £lOO mure in stakes as compared with the previous New Year meeting) was read and approved. It was resolved that a letter of thanks be sent to the Masterton Club for the offer of their racecourse for the New Year meeting. PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH SUCCESSFUL SHOP DAY. The Presbyterian Church held a successful shop day in the Town Hall yesterday. The well-filled stalls were soon emptied, business being very brisk from the time the Rev. R. S. Keenan officially opened the gathering at 1.30 p.m.
The stall-holders were:— Produce, Mesdames S. Benton, R. Hardy, D. Burt, Misses Donald and Hodder, Messrs F. Benton and R. Hardy; cake stall, Mrs G. Yule, Misses G. Yule and J. Donald: work stall, Mrs Keenan, Misses Goodrick, D. Chisholm, and M. Hardie; flower stall, Mrs Arch. Clark; sweets stall, Mesdames S. Burt and R. Barnard; tea rooms, Mesdames Carlycn, Graham, James, Hayes, C. Buck, J. Buck. Misses R. Buck, N. Buri. N. Wilton and B. Murphy. Mr Tait was in charge of the hall arrangements. Anzac Hall as a Hospital. A special meeting of the Borough Council was held last night to consider the taking over of the Anzac Hall as a hospital by the hospital authorities. The council decided not to agree with the proposal. Personal Items. At the monthly meeting of the stewards of the Wairarapa Racing Club a vote of condolence was passed to the relatives of the late Mr J. B. Bairstow, who was for many years secretary of the Carterton Club. Miss E. Till is spending the weekend in Wellington. _____
