A SCENE SPOILT
MR BERNARD SHAW’S POPULARITY. At 84 Mr Shaw still keeps fit and active. As a vegetarian who has long' lived on “iron rations,” he is not bothered by food restrictions. His diet consists mainly of oatmeal, cereals, bread, milk and fruits. Government spokesmen and scientists are now advocating a dietary on. these lines, but its general adoption, declared the author of “You Never Can Tell," staged in Hamilton this week, cannot be guaranteed to produce a nation of Shaws. During the - “shooting” of Shaw’s “Major Barbara” the other day a scene was spoilt and the person responsible was the author. In the Albert Hall. London, a thousand extras, dressed as Salvationists, had just sung “Abide With Me,” and were waiting to be addressed by their leader, played by Sybil Thorndike. Catching sight of Mr Shaw, who had dropped in casually, they forgot the cameras to cheer him.
