WOMEN’S INSTITUTES MEETING AT NIREAHA. ' (“Times-Age” Special.) Mrs N. Terry (president) presided over an excellent attendance of members at the monthly meeting cf the Nireaha Women's Institute. Owing to the unavoidable absence of Mrs P. Wiljcin, the duties of secretary were performed by Mrs K. Perry. It was decided to pay Is per member into the Institute Pool Fund, which will be used for patriotic purposes. It was also decided to accept the invitation to act as the hostess institute at the council meeting to be held at Eketahuna on October 24. Mrs G. Brown gave a most interesting demonstration of daisy work, for which she was heartily thanked. The Roll Call for the month was “A Proverb.” The winners of the competitions were: —Italian quilting: Mrs IV. Drysdale. 1; Mrs J. Drysdale, 2; Mrs M. Stewart, 3. Eggless gingernuts: Mrs F. Hansen, 1; Mesdames J. Drysdale, W. Drysdale, J. Mason and N. Terry (equal), 2. Best bloom: Mrs J. Hawkins, 1; Mrs J. P. Petersen, 2. The hostesses were Mesdames J. Mason and H. Nordell. WEDDING KENDALL—WILLIAMS. The Methodist Church was the scene of a pretty wedding on Saturday last, when Dorothy Elizabeth (Betty), eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs J. Williams, Parkville, was married to John, eldest son of Mrs K. Kendall, Eketahuna. The Rev. lan Hopper performed the ceremony. The church was attractively decorated by Mrs R. Duncan. Miss Muriel Smith presided at the organ, and during the signing of the register, she sang “My Prayer.” Escorted by her father the bride made a charming picture in a gown of cream satin, the train being trimmed with silver. The veil was held in place with a coronet of orange blossom. Her shower bouquet was of freezias, arum lilies and maidenhair fern. In attendance as bridesmaid was Miss Z. Elliott, who was frocked in figured mauve crepe, with a halo of mauve anemones. Her bouquet was of primulas, cyclamen and irises in shades to match her frock. The duties of best man were carried out by Mr Norman Kendall, brother of the bridegroom. The reception was held at Taylor s tearooms, where over 50 guests were welcomed by Mrs Williams, wearing a smart pin-striped costume with accessories to tone. She was assisted by Mrs Kendall, who was attired in a nig-ger-brown costume with accessories of the same shade. Mr Hopper was the toastmaster, the usual toasts being honoured. When Mr and Mrs Kendall left for the north on their honeymoon, the bride travelled in a navy blue costume, with hat, shoes and accessories to match. They were the recipients oi many beautiful gifts. The bridegroom entered camp yesterday for training with the fourth reinforcements. Soldiers Farewelled. There was a big attendance of relatives and friends at the railway station yesterday afternoon for the purpose of farewelling town and district men who left for Trentham Camp. As the train left the station the men were accorded three hearty cheers. Personal. Mr S. J. O’Regan, line foreman of the local P. & T„ will retire on superannuation at the end of the present month, after 32 years' service. Patriotic Ball. ' The Eketahuna Borough Ladies’ Fighting Forces Committee is holding a ball in the Eketahuna Public Hall on Monday next, the proceeds of which will be in aid of securing comfort.'; for men of the fighting services. In yesterday’s issue the date of the function was wrongly given as Wednesday instead of Monday. Ken Hick's Orchestra has been engaged and a real night of enjoyment is in store for all who attend.
