REGENT THEATRE

“EARL OF CHICAGO.” A Chicago gangster becomes an English Earl by inheritance. That is the interesting situation in the most unusual motion picture ever made, “The] Earl of Chicago,” starring Robert Montgomery, and which will be finally shown at the Regent Theatre tonight. “THE ROAD TO SINGAPORE.” “The Road to Singapore,” the new Paramount comedy musical with Bing Crosby, Dorothy Lamour and Bob Hope in the starring roles, and a supporting cast headed by Charles Coburn, Judith Barret, Anthony Quinn and Jerry Colonna, will be shown tomorrow. The two lads who don paint to get admission to a native feast, Bing Crosby and Bob Hope, those distinguished fugitives who spend their time in this picture basking in the tropics where they hope to avoid matrimony. But, of course, when Crosby gets a chance to croon to Miss Lamour and Bob can keep her amused, the boys are soon off on the wrong track again. All this trekking down to the land of GoonaGoona comes about when they get back in port after a voyage on a boat. First, they have to dispose of a couple of persons sent around by one of Hope’s old girl friends. Then there is the trouble with Bing’s father —Charles Coburn, and his fiancee, Miss Barrett, who both seem to think that he should settle down. The lads dispose of that problem by fleeing to Kaigoon. Existence in kaigoon is idyllic until they run into Dorothy Lamour being abused by her dancing partner, Anthony Quinn. The boys take care of him with a fine little game of “Patty-cake,” and she decides to take care of them as far as the housekeeping goes. Although they resent it at first, they decide they like having her around, and both of them fall in love with her. The featurettes include the latest Air Mail News, a Popeye cartoon, a brilliant musical and #m excellent animal study, “Playmates of the Wild." The plans are at Messrs Steele and Bull’s shop.
