Taxing of Charitable Gifts.

Early action is lo be taken by the Government to repeal the clause in the recent Land and Income Tax Amendment Act. taxing gifts to charitable institutions. This advice has been received by the Dunedin Presbytery from tile general treasurer of the Presbyterian Church. The Minister of Finance, Mr Nash, has agreed to repeal the clause, and effect will be given to this promise in a Bill to be introduced soon. Optimist Club Meeting.

There was a fair attendance at the weekly meeting of the Masterton Optimist Club held in the Y.M.C’.A. rooms last night. Chief Optimist. Murray Daniell presided. The speaker was Sister R. Snowden of the Methodist. Home Mission who gave an interesting address mi Christian adventure, dealing in particular with the example of David Livingstone. On the motion of the Rev T. V. Pearson a hearty vote of thanks was accorded the speaker. Sister Snowdon has travelled extensively in connection with her work, having been ail over Europe, and has written several books.
