TE ORE ORE MEETING. FIRST BIRTHDAY CELEBRATED. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Te Ore Ore Women's Institute held its first birthday on Saturday afternoon in the Te Ore Ore schoolroom. The meeting opened by all present singing "God Defend New Zealand.” Visiters were then welcomed by the president, Mrs. Fouhy. An apology for absence was received from Mrs. Joblin. president of the Wairarapa Federation, and founder of the Te Oro Ore Institute. Greetings from the Federation were conveyed to the Te Ore Orc Institute by Miss O. Wolters .who was presented with a bouquet. Apologies were also received from institutes unable to send representatives, and from the following ladies who had acted as demonstrators during the year:—Mrs. E. Shaw, Miss J. Sellar. Miss J. McLaughlin (Hamua). Shoulder sprays were presented to the representatives of the following institutes, who conveyed birthday greetings: —Parkvale, Kopuaranga, Cpaki, Solway-Manaia. Kaituna, Fernridge, Matarawa. Dalefield, Upper Plain. Carterton and Mount Bruce. Mrs. G. Dagg, Mrs. Whittaker and Miss Bliss were also recipients of shoulder sprays in acknowledgment of their kindness in acting as demonstrators during the year. The competitions were won by Miss Knowles (Matarawa) and Miss Takare Haeta.

Items wore contributed by Waireka Nini (tap dance), Takare Haeata (song), Waireka Nini and Takare Haeta (duet), Miss Elizabeth Thomas and party, assisted by local members, contributed an amusing play reading, “In Search of a Husband.”

Afternoon tea. attractively set out, was served. The cake which was made and decorated by Mrs. J. MacDonald, was lit by Mrs. Nini. representing Mrs. J. Brown, the oldest member, and blown out by Miss Iris West, the youngest member. Miss Wolters was accorded the honour of cutting the cake, which was then handed round by the hostesses.

Points prizes for the year were won as follows: —flowers, Mrs. J. McLaughlin; sewing and cooking, Mrs. J. McLaughlin and Miss Bliss equal; games. Mrs. Fouhy; potato growing, Mrs. Ker ney. On behalf of the Te Ore Ore Institute Mrs. G. Dagg asked Mrs. Fouhy to accept a bouquet of autumn leaves and berries.

On behalf of the Te Ore Ore Institute the president asked Miss Bliss, the retiring secretary, to accept a gift as a token of appreciation from the members for the work she had done during the year as secretary. On presenting Miss Bliss with a bouquet, Mrs. J. MacDonald and Mrs. J. Haeata both expressed the best wishes of members for her future happiness. ALFREDTON. COMPETITION WINNERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Alfredton Women’s Institute held their meeting last Friday, there being a good attendance of members. Mrs. Stan Edmonds presided. The meeting opened with the ode to friendship and the prayer for peace. Mrs. Clee gave a very interesting report on the council meeting held at Woodville last month.

Mrs. M. Stone-Wigg demonstrated on how to roll and apply bandages.

Competitions resulted as follow: Pikelets, Mrs. W. Dickens, 1; Mrs. E. Seymour, 2; Mrs. Stan Edmonds, 3: best bloom, Mrs. Dickens (chrysanthemum) 1, Mrs. Hutchings (dahlia) 2. Mrs. R. Low (Iceland poppy) 3; best decorated egg cup. Miss S. Napier 1, Mrs. E. McLean 2, Mrs. E. Seymour 3: Mrs. Lon proposed a hearty vote of thanks to Mrs. Stone-Wigg for her very interesting demonstration, which was carried by acclamation. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Weston, Seymour and Miss S. Napier.

The meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem.
