DONATIONS TOWARDS WAR EFFORT. WIDE RESPONSE IN CANADA. Ottawa. Typical of a stream of free-will contributions to Canada's war effort which began with the outbreak of war and still continues, the Canadian Minister of Finance, the Hon. J. L. Ralston, received a dollar from an old Canadian soldier, who, unable to walk or work, donated this amount as a “very small help towards stopping the war." From another Canadian veteran, the Minister received a five-dollar gold piece. The money, which had been given to the donor by his daughter upon bis return; home from the World War, the first she 1 ' had earned as a school teacher, was accompanied by the remark: "This will do more good to our boys who arc 'carrying on' than it will dangling from my watch chain."

About six hundred Cree Indians living’; in the vicinity of Nelson House. Manitoba, some four . hundred miles north of Winnipeg, are doing their bit in traditional style. Each Indian is donating the pelt of some fur-bearing animal to the aid of the Capadiau Red Cross’.
