R.S.A. AFFAIRS

MEETING OF EXECUTIVE

(“Times-Age" Special.)

The monthly meeting of the executive of the Eketahuna branch of the R.S.A. was held last night. There were present: Messrs. M. Morris (vice-presi-dent. in the chair). A. H. Herbert (president). M. Shale (secretary), A. Chambers. J. McLaughlin. L. Russell, A. Golder. C. Dillon, W. Shannon, W. Pryde and S. Daniel. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs. Hancock and C. Bowyer. Considerable discussion ensued regarding the amount, of expenses to be allowed the delegate to the conference. It was decided that a sum ’of £5 be allocated. Accounts totalling £5 12s 9d were passed. It was decided to make a recommendation to the annual meeting that a flag be purchased for ceremonial purposes. It was decided to hold Poppy Day as usual on April 18; to send letters of sympathy to Mrs. A. G. Carter, Mr. A. E, Brittian and Mr. B. Morris in their illnesses; to approach the following ladies to sell poppies, Mesdames Albretchen, S. Daniel, Curry and Miss Greathead; and to ask the Mayor in regard to Anzac Day, to offer the executive co-operation in every way in connection with the ceremony. The secretary was instructed to arrange for a speaker for the Anzac Day ceremony. It was decided to approach the Rev. D. McNeur, Masterton, and the Methodist minister of Eketahuna. to conduct the Anzac service. The secretary was instructed to approach headquarters regarding the case of a member. Mr Herbert reported on the activities of the Patriotic Committee, and stated that the machinery had been set in motion to collect the money for the £lOO.OOO appeal. BOWLING A WIN FOR PAHIATUA. Five rinks representing the Pahiatua Bowling Club paid their annual visit to Eketahuna on Sunday and after many enjoyable heads were played were the winners by three games to one, while one was drawn. The results were: — Swanney's ring beat Williams,s, 21/18; W. Hooper’s drew with Kershaw’s, 22/22; Hodd’s beat Hornblow’s, 28/21; Simpson’s beat Hunter’s, 27/23; Carrad's beat Rogers’s, 26/17. PRIMARY SCHOOLS SPORTS ON SATURDAY. The Bush Primary Schools’ Sports Association will hold its annual sports on the Eketahuna Domain on Saturday. This year 19 schools will compete for the Herbert Smith cups. In the past these gatherings have proved highly successful and this year competition should be even better. RIFLE SHOOTING ALFREDTON CLUB CONTESTS. The Alfredton Rifle Club held a practice over the 500 and 600 yard ranges on Saturday and the result was a win for A. Edmonds on the count back. Scores were:

Mr H. Crocker, Katikati. who has been on a visit to the Exhibition, is visiting relatives in the town. Mystery Parcel. The mystery parcel competition held in connection with the recent Anglican Church effort was won by Mrs J. Williams. Parkville. The parcel contained pot-pourri. Frost Damage. Late bean and pumpkin crops in Eketahuna and district suffered severely as a result of Monday night’s frost. Train Delays. At the monthly meeting of the Eketahuna District High School Committee on Monday night a discussion ensued on the late departure of the trains conveying country pupils to their homes. It was decided to write to the Education Board and Railways Department with a view to having the position remedied.
