CHAMPIONSHIPS DECIDED.
(“Times-Age” Special.)
The Mauriceville Table Tennis Championships were held last night, and the finals resulted as follows:—
Men’s singles —N. Myers beat R Clarke, 21-13, 22-24, 21-16.
Ladies’ singles —Miss J. Larsen beat Miss J. McGovern, 18-21, 21-19, 21-16. Men’s handicap singles—W. H. Cheetham beat A. Wilkin 31-26. Ladies' handicap singles—Mrs A. Wilkin beat Miss A. McGovern, 31-28. R. Clarke after his defeat in the final of the Hawke's Bay championship last week was -in good form, but the consistent attack of N. Myers proved too good for his defence in the final. The final of the ladies’ singles was a repeat performance of the Wairarapa final a fortnight ago. It was unfortunate that Miss I. McGovern has been unable to play during the season, and has not shown her true form. She lost her title to Miss Larsen, who is playing particularly well. W. H. Cheetham, who won the handicap singles two years ago, had no trouble in reaching the final to beat A. Wilkin in a very close match.
Mrs A. Wilkin made the most of her handicap, and accounted for Miss A. McGovern in another close final.
The season will be officially closed on Tuesday. October 3, when a combined doubles tournament will oe played.
