.WIND-UP OF SEASON

(“Times-Age” Special.)

A very successful wind-up to a splendid season’s shooting 'was held last evening, when there was a large attendance of shooters to fire for the annual championship and to participate in the presentation of cups and trophies won during the season. Two competitions were held and fourteen cash prizes were awarded to the successful shooters.

Al the conclusion of the shooting the hall was cleaned up and tables set for supper which was in charge of lady members of the club, there being a very dainty supper provided. The president of the club (Mr Ross Hawker) referred to the very successful season that had been enjoyed and the remarkable advancement made by this year’s shooters. Everything had progressed harmoniously during the year. He hoped the present unrest in world affairs would be over before next season came round and that all would meet together again and enjoy such a season as the one which was being brought to a close. He called upon the secretary (Mr C. J. DeLacey) to announce the winners of competitions during the year. The winners were as follow: —

Men’s Championship and Press Cup: Mr Rex Porter, score 1591, average 99.7; R. Taucher, 1585, average 99.1; D. Gayfer, 1584, average 99. Ladies’ Championship and Gladful Cup: Miss I. Fisher, score 1578, average 98.1. Miss Fisher’ wins the Gladful Cup outright after the trophy had been in competition for 18 years. She won the cup both ways, three times in succession and five times at intervals. The Cup has 18 names upon it. Miss Jr Lorenzen, a first year shooter, was runnerup with a score of 1576. and an average of 98.1 The Hill and Hughes Cup was won by Mr D. Gayfer. who scored 1918 off the' rifle. Miss A. McPhee was runnernip with 1907. Messrs Whitcombe and Caldwell s Cup went to H. Torrey with a score of 1945- G. Sewell was runner-up with 1 940 - e < Mr C. J. DeLacey’s Cup for first year shooters, was won by R. Ordish, who registered 1671. S. Dwane 1668, Miss Lorenzen 1658 and L. Fitzgerald 1639 were next. Mr J. A. B. Lawrence’s trophy was won by Mr Rex Porter, who registered three possibles out of four shoots. Messrs Keltie and Co’s trophy went to Mr R. Taucher, who beat L. DeLaccy after a tie, best three out of four competitions. Mr Ross Hawker’s trophy for the best score off the rifle last evening for junior shooters was won by Mr EJones. The runner-up in this event, R. Ordish, won Miss J. Lorenzen’s framed picture. , The captain, Mr Porter, expressed his thanks to members for their assistance during the season. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the secretary, the president and the captain for services rendered during the season. Next Tuesday a match will be fired between the old time members and the present day shooters, the teams for which will'be published tomorrow. WOMEN’S DIVISION BABY CARNIVAL. There was a very large attendance at the Clareville Hall last evening when a euchre tournament and dance was held in aid of the Belvedere-Tara-tahi baby (John Corbet) in the baby carnival being conducted under the jurisdiction of the Carterton branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union. The attendance was the largest yet seen in the hall and the votes for this particular baby will be very materially increased as a result. The winners of the cards were: — Miss B. James 1, and Mr Jas Fisher 2; further prizes being won by Mrs C. K. Goodin, Miss F. Eagle, Mr A. Daysh and Mr C. Holland. The consolation awards went to Mrs McDonald and Mr Fisher Junr. Supper was provided and presided over by a ladies’ committee. The floor was then cleared for dancing, the music for which was gratuitously supplied by Mr and Mrs C. K. Goodin, Mesdames R. Williams and R. Patterson and Mr S. O’Connor. Mr L. Humphries officiated as M.C. The Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mr and Mrs Quinn. Competition for a bantam rooster and a cake were won by Mr R. Wilson and “Me and My Pal.’’ respectively. CARTERTON LIBRARY MEETING OF COMMITTEE. Mr W. Vaughan presided over a meeting of the Carterton Library Committee on Monday evening. Four new subscribers were enrolled making the total 148. Accounts totalling £8 5s were passed for payment. Mr H. T. Leete was accorded a vote of thanks for his donation of a board on which now books will be listed. FOOTBALL CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP BALL. At a meeting of the social committee of the Carterton Football Club, arrangements were made for a championship ball to be held on Monday. October 9. Udy’s Orchestra will provide the dance music.
