USEFUL HINTS. Avoid that annoying accident with a slippery draining-board by placing upon it a meshed dish-cloth. The plates and saucers will not then crash into the sink. An iodine stain on a pine or other light-stained piece of furniture can be removed by spreading over it a paste of baking-soda. When it dries, brush off. , When washing windows or woodwork with up-stretched arm it is unpleasant to have little streams of water .running down your sleeve. Tie a cloth, perhaps a piece of old towelling, around to wrist to catch the water. Do not let the tea “stew” for someone who will be a little late home. Pour it off into a second heated teapot and put a coi?k in the spout to retain the heat. If boiling eggs hard start them in. boiling water and add a little salt to the water. The salt will enable the shells to be removed with ease. If a buttonhole is to be mended, begin by putting a little patch of tape on the underside. Then cut through the tape and work the buttonhole. A piece of chamois leather —cut heelshaped, perhaps from old gloves—glued into the heel of a shoe reduces the wear on stockings.
