OLDEST TRICOLOR
FRENCH TOWN’S POSSESSION. The town of Monville, in Normandy, possesses the oldest tricolour in France' preciously guarded in the Town Hall. It dates from 1789. the year of the Revolution. It was made by women of the commune and presented to Baron de Monville, commander of the local National Guard. The Baron later made a present of it to his secretary, and it eventually came into the possession of a shopkeeper of the town. Although he was offered a very large sum of money for the flag, he refused to let it go and made a present of the relic to Monville.
