MAURICEVILLE MEETING. WAR ASSISTANCE. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Mauriceville Women’s Institute held its monthly meeting in the Mauriceville East Hall on Tuesday. Mrs. Forsberg presided over a good attendance of members. In view of the present European situation, the meeting was opened with the singing of God Save the King and the recital of the Prayer for Peace. The president made reference to the disastrous war which now existed between the British Empire and Germany and feelingly appealed to all members to do their utmost to assist in any possible way. The following resolution was unanimously passed: “That this Women’s Institute give our Federation and Dominion Headquarters all. possible help and support in whatever work they may undertake for the benefit of our country and the British Empire.” The treasurer was instructed to purchase a supply of wool and flannel and the members agreed to knit and sew suitable garments for the children in Britain who are facing winter weather under war conditions. It was decided to ask all members to meet at the Foresters’ Hall, Mauriceville West, next Tuesday afternoon at 1.30 o’clock to commence this work. The “Golden Thread” was carried on by Miss M. Larsen, who gave an interesting talk on “Pyramids in Egypt.” Mrs McArley was welcomed as a new member. A very interesting debate with the ■ Kopuaranga Women’s Institute on the subject “That the Victorian woman was a better home-maker and mother than the modern woman” took place, and was won by Kopuaranga who spoke on the affirmative. .The debaters who took part were Mrs Miller, Misses M. Wright and M. Kane for Kopuaranga and Miss C. Childs and Mesdames Freeman and Scherf for Mauriceville, The competitions resulted as follows:—Best bloom: Mrs Forsberg, 1; Mrs H. Nielsen, 2; Miss J, Larsen, 3. Best sponge (with filling): Mrs Forsberg, 1: Mrs Scherf, 2; Mrs H. Nielsen, 3, Banner design: Miss J. Larsen. The hostesses were Mrs Myers and Mrs Bain, who were warmly thanked. Mrs Wright, on behalf of the Kopua- - ranga ladies, expressed thanks for an enjoyable afternoon and said that she hoped the Mauriceville Women’s Institute t|ould visit Kopuaranga in the near future-
