SITTING AT CARTERTON. INTOXICATED MOTORIST FINED £2O. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly sitting of the Carterton S.M. Court was held yesterday afternoon before Mr H. P. Lawry, »S.M. Civil Cases. C. H. D. Hercock (Mr Taverner) v W. Gregor (Mr Lawson) claim £36 2s 6d, for damage to cycle and other expenses in connection with an accident recently. The plaintiff was non-suited with costs. Judgment was given for plaintiff by default in the following cases: —Watson and Co v R. Green, claim £1 3s 6d; Watson and Co v G. Burden, claim £3 12s 6d Watson and Co v J. B. Sewell, claim £2 10s; E. P. Eccles and Co v June Hall, claim £1 17s 6d; Watson and Co v June Hall, claim 12s 4d; Wairarapa Electric Power Board v B. J. Salisbury, claim 18s 6d; Feist and Co v Ivan Free, claim £4 0s 4d. Judgement summonses: —Feist and Co v J. E. R. Ray, claim £5 2s 7d. Defendant was ordered to pay forthwith in default 5 days’ imprisonment; Watson Victor Ltd v R. N. Campbell, claim £4 7s 6d. Defendant was ordered to pay forthwith in default 4 days’ imprisonment. P. J. Bannin v Eric T. Miller, claim £6 3s. Defendant was ordered to pay forthwith in default, 6 days’ imprisonment. Gawith, Biss, Wilson and Taverner v T. H. Henderson, claim £9 9s. Defendant is to pay forthwith in default 9 days’ imprisonment. Police Cases. The police charged Cyril Singer that he did on June 3, at Carterton, assault John McGimpsey. .Singer was also charged with having assaulted Athol Sewell. On both charges he was convicted and fined £2 with witnesses expenses ss. Singer was further charged with using obscene language in Higa Street, Carterton, on June 3, and was fined £2: . . She was fined £3, costs 19s and witnesses expenses 15s. A H. Warren was charged that on September 2 at South Carterton he was found in a state of intoxication while in charge of a motor car. Accused, whe was defended by Mr Griffiths, pleaded guilty. Evidence was given by the police and the Traffic Inspector. Accused was fined £2O, and ordered to paj medical fees £2 2s. His license was cancelled,' a prohibition order issuea against him, and he was refused a fin - ther license for 18 months. , Traffle Cases. Traffic Inspector Nicholson proceeded against Merlin Jenkins for having failed to possess a current motor license. Accused was fined 10s with 10s I costs. The Traffic Inspector charged Edward T. Te Tau with having driven a motor car along the Master ton Main Highway at a speed which might have been dangerous to the public. Accused pleaded guilty and was fined £4 and costs 15s. . „ . Alan T. Oakey for having failed tc carry a warrant of fitness was linec £1 with costs 10s. Henry Leaver was charged with having failed to carry a warrant of fitness. It was stated that defendant had purchased a car that had been used for demonstration purposes and hac. received the warrant which was out of date. He presumed it was in ordei until approached by the traffic officer The Magistrate fined accused 5s with 10s costs. Reserved Judgment. The Magistrate delivered his reserved judgment in the case of J. C. Fitzgerald v lan Hector. Plaintiff on Sep tember 30. 1938, purchased from defendant his farm and live and dead stock (with certain admitted exceptions) The dispute was in regard to a horse half-draught, which was claimed as a hack, and was of somewhat lighter build than is usual in a half-draught Plaintiff refused to accept the same and claimed in lieu £3O.
