FAREWELL SOCIAL TENDERED TO MR AND MRS HARVEY. (“Times-Age” Special.) A social was held in the Kahutara Hall on Tuesday night when the settlers gathered to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs Harvey who are shortly leaving the district. A very pleasant time was spent in dancing and card playing. Mr H. C. Playle, on behalf of the Hall Committee and settlers, spoke of the splendid work carried out in the district by Mr and Mrs Harvey and how splendidly Mrs Harvey had worked at a member of.the Hall Committee. He asked Mr and Mrs Harvey to accept an eiderdown quilt and bedspread, together with gifts for Miss Elsie and Master Jock Harvey. Mr Duncan Wilson referred to the splendid work accomplished by Mr Harvey while an employee of Mr J. Carne Bidwill for the past ten years and presented him with a handsome oak tobacco jar and Mrs Harvey with a crystal salad bowl, accompanied by the best wishes. from the employees for their future prosperity and happiness.
Mrs D. Wilson presented Mrs Harvey with a shoulder spray. Mrs McKenna, president of the Kahutara branch of the Women’s Institute. made reference to the splendid work Mrs Harvey had carried out as a member of the Institute. On behalf of the Institute-she asked Mrs Harvey to accept a silver sugar «basin engraved with the Institute badge. Mr Rendle referred to the valuable worker Mrs Harvey had been on the Hall Committee. Mr Harvey suitably replied. After supper dancing was continued, the music being supplied by Mr R. Matenga (piano) and Mr D. Sutherland (violin - ). The gathering was brought to a close with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.” 'l FIRE BRIGADE MONTHLY MEETING. At the monthly meeting of the Featherston Fire Brigade Superintendent Tidswell presided over a good attendance of members. Prior to the commencement of business a welcome was extended to Mr A. Tricker, ex-secretary of the brigade, who is visiting Featherston for a few days. Mr Tricker is at present on sick leave, and that he would make a speedy recovery to health was the wish of every member of the brigade. Fireman Skipage applied for a twoyear service bar. It was stated that owing to the war the one-day demonstration that was to have been held this year had been cancelled. BENZINE SUPPLIES BUSY TIME FOR STAFF. The sub-controller of Benzine Supplies (Mr J. B. Davis), and his staff have had an exceedingly busy time during the past few days, attending to the applications of car owners for petrol licences. The Featherston district extends as far, south as Lake Ferry. The licences issued up till 5 p.m. yesterday numbered approximately 250. Personal. Mr and Mrs M. Hood have returned to Kahutara and taken up their residence in Whareoto Road.
