GIRLS’ CLUB CONCERT

ST. MATTHEW’S PARISH HALL LAST NIGHT. EXCELLENT ENTERTAINMENT. The annual concert of the St. Matthew’s Girls’ Club was held in the Parish Hall last night. From beginning to end the items went with a great swing, following on without delay and being enthusiastically received and applauded throughout. From the time when the curtain first rose the performers were on good terms with their audience, who with the girls, soon settled down to enjoy a very happy evening. Each performer did justice to her training and all reached a high standard and are to be heartily congratulated. Both old and new members of the club demonstrated the fact that in the club there is a great spirit of friendliness and good-fellowship in service. Before the final song, Mrs E. J. Rich apologised for the unavoidable absence of the Vicar, and thanked those present for their attendance and interest in the club activities and said that it was a great help to the girls to have their efforts so well supported. The programme opened with an extremely amusing farce presented by Misses M. Harrington, M. Burton, J. Purcell, B. Judd, N. Flaws, C. Lambert, J. Ansell and E. Thomas. This was followed by two songs by Miss M. Fulton, a violin solo by Miss E. Stidolph, and a vocal duet by Misses F. Youngquest and N. Flaws. The next play, with a surprise at the end, was presented by Misses D. Kemp, M. Fulton, F. Youngquest, P. Croad, E. Thomas and B. Judd. Three more items, a vocal duet by Misses I. and M. Fulton, a recitation by Miss C. Thomas, and a song by Miss F. Youngquest brought the programme to the final play. Here the audience was given a glimpse of Cockney life in London. The players were Miss J. Ansell, J. Whiting, Z. Loader, N. Flaws and J. Fulton. The excellence of the fare presented was to be judged by the large number of smiles and chuckles as the audience left the hall, having voted this concert one of the best yet given. One of the plays is to be presented again at the Kuripuni social evening tomorrow night.
