SCHOOL COMMITTEE

MONTHLY MEETING OF

MEMBERS

("Times-Age” Special.)

The monthly meeting of the Greytown District High School Committee was held at the residence of Mr W. G. K. Wiggins last night. There were present Messrs H. G. Carter (chairman), F. Dennes (treasurer), J. Herod. H. C. Trotman, J. Morison. W. Wiggins, Mrs Knell (secretary). Mr S. Shedden. the headmaster, was also present. The roll number was reported as: 298 primary and 38 secondary. The attendance for the month had been poor owing to sickness. Quite a number of children of all- ages were away with chicken pox. The headmaster reported that the electric pick-up and loud speaker had been installed. Cocoa was being supplied to the children who bring their lunches.

The Education Board wrote giving authority for new cupboards in the Secondary Department and office.

It was agreed to dispose of the old duplicator at t a price offered.

The Education Board wrote agreeing to the school buildings being used as a Girl Guide camp during the centennial celebrations. The committee decided to recommend to the Education Board that Messrs W. Grigg and G. Robinson be appointed to fill the vacancies on the committee.

The headmaster reported that the entries for the lamb and calf competitions were coming in freely. Mr J. W. Herod was deputed to arrange for stimulation of entries.

After the general business of the committee had been completed Mr and Mrs Wiggins entertained the committee and their wives and members of the staff to a demonstration on their home cinematograph. The films shown were scenes of interest in New Zealand. At the present time the committee is contemplating the purchase of one of these machines for use in the school. After supper Mr Carter expressed the thanks of all those present to Mr and Mrs Wiggins for their hospitality. LADIES’ GOLF COMPETITION RESULTS. The following are the results of the ladies’ competition played last Saturday:— Final round of bogey competition:— Miss E. Gregor 4 down, Mrs Maddison 4 down. The rainfall recorded at Greytown for July was 1110 points. There were 27 wet days. The maximum fall on one day was 161 points.
