PRIMARY PRODUCERS

THE DESIRE FOR UNITED ORGANISATION. ACTION BY FARMERS - UNION. In reporting on the events of the recent Dominion Conference, at yesterday's meeting of the Wairarapa Provincial Executive of the Farmers’ Union, Mr W. J. Thomas touched on the matter of reorganisation. "The committee set up to go into this question reported that while it felt that a complete reorganisation of the Union on the lines of the Horribin-O’Shea report was desirable it appeared that amalgamation of all farming interests was.not possible at once, and that what should be aimed at was as complete contact as possible,” Mr Thomas stated. Provincial executives, he added, were recommended to invite representatives of other local organisations of primary producers to join their executives as honorary members, with full voting power. The Dominion Executive had been empowered to invite representatives of other national organisations of primary producers to become members of the executive with full voting powers. The Dominion Conference would in future invite representatives from the conferences of other national primary producers’ organisations to attend the annual conference of the Farmers' Union, with, full voting powers. The numbers of honorary members, in the case of provinces. was to be left to the provincial executives, and in other cases to the Dominion Executive.

Mr Thomas urged that steps be taken at once to have representatives of the various organisations in the Wairarapa at the next meeting of the executive. "We have much in common with these other organisations.” he observed. "and if we have them represented at our meeting it will be the commencement of the complete amalgamation which is what is wanted." Mr Thomas's suggestion was adopted and a resolution endorsing the action of the Dominion Conference in regard to the matter was carried.
