RUGBY FOOTBALL

OLD BOYS v OPAKI. (By “Touchline.”) In the match between Opaki and Old Boys both sides were without their usual players. Roigard, Clarke, Seymour, Taplin and Allen being away from Opaki and Old Boys could only muster 13 players, finishing with 12 after Burling was injured. However, quite good football was seen at times. Costello opened the Opaki tally with a fine run to score well out. Morgan’s kick was fruitless. Shortly after, Duncan fielded nicely to score a fine try, no goal resulting. Costello again went over with a powerful run, Morgan failing with the kick. A great run by Cardno saw him spreadeagled in six inches of water, but he came up smiling. Opaki took matters easy and won by 9 points to nil. Their scrum work was naturally disorganised and the ball seldom came cleanly through to Chisnail, although. Chapell hooked it very frequently. A few nice back movements took place but it was mostly individual play. Old Boys deserve credit for their plucky fight with only 12 players against a full team. Their forwards got in some fine rushes. Green, at full-back, was safe, Wilton and Cardno being very conspicuous. Milner was starved on the wing. Mr H. Matson controlled the game splendidly. The Opaki Club hope to see a big attendance at its dance on Thursday night at Mauriceville. Roigard, Howie, Taplin, Clarke and Costello are selected in the North team on Saturday and any unable to play is to notify the selector.
