COURSING

WAIRARAPA CLUB’S MEETING. AKURA NEXT SATURDAY. The Wairarapa Coursing Club’s meeting, which was postponed from last Saturday to next Saturday, on account of last week’s snowstorm, promises to provide an afternoon of spectacular coursing, as the standard of the dogs nominated is of the highest. Mr A. La Roche's nomination, Desert Storm (Wellington) proved himself a quality greyhound when he ran Julius Caesar to a close decision in the Open Stake a fortnight ago. Desert Storm has won several stakes in Oamaru, including a 32-dog event. Mr D. Wilson’s Big Ben is a good opponent for any dog in the event, providing he is in the same form as when he defeated The Clipper at the opening meeting this season.

The Maiden Stake, which is to be run with the cup, has an excellent nomination of greyhounds from Wellington and Wanganui, besides Carterton and Masterton. Perhaps the most outstanding visiting nomination will be Mr R. Radcliffe’s Australian-bred dog Gay Master. This brilliant puppy claims as his sire the Irish importation Paymaster. This dog is a very fast and accomplished worker. White Lie, owned by Mr W. L. Jensen, of Carterton, is sure to run well after her excellent showing recently when she ran into the semi-finals in the Watson Trophy contest. British Pride, Mrs R. Mason’s consistent courser, will be a worthy contender for any dog as only on a few occasions has he been out of the money.

The draw will take place tonight at the Y.M.C.A. at 8.30 o’clock. At 7 p.m. the committee will meet to finalise matters for Saturday.
