CHILDREN’S PARTY

ENJOYABLE GATHERING.

HELD BY LABOUR PARTY.

A successful children’s fancy dress party was given by the Masteiton Women's Branch of the New Zealand Labour Party on Saturday afternoon at the Y.M.C.A. Hall. Many pretty and original dresses were worn. Those present were: —Shirley McNamara, Night; Brian Hawksworth. King of Hearts; Audrey Grigg, Aunt Daisy; Verna Cornick, Spanish Lady; Heather Robertson, Victorian Lady; Nola Page, Masterton Mayor’s Only Safety Crossing; Ria Page, Original Maori; Carol Creighton, Chinaman; Margaret Bannister, Gipsy; Betty Lavery, Bridesmaid; Royce Doyle, Labour Daily; Shirley Doyle. Patches Old; Don Miller. Drummer Boy; Francis Miller, May Day; Len Miller, N.Z. Made Goods; Beulah Miller, Knob of Blue; Mary O'Neill, Bride; Valerie Dewar, Bridegroom; Peggy O’Neill, Labour Daily; Tony O’Neill, J. Robertson, M.P.; Ngaire Dewar, Mrs Robertson; Willie Thompson, Robin Hood; Shirley Brown. Turkish Girl; Patty McQuade and Patty Peek. Items were given by Mr Deigan. Wendy Torwick, the Brophy brothers, Carol Creighton, Patty McQuade, Mary O'Neill, Francis Dewar and Buller Miller. The prize-winners were: —

Best fancy dress (boy): Willie Thompson, Robin Hood; girl, Shirley Doyle, Crinoline Lady. Most original: “Masterton Mayor’s Crossing,” Nola Page; Audrey Grigg (Aunt Daisy).

Best costume, 5 years and under: Drummer Boy, Don Miller. Best couple: Mary O’Neill (Bride) and Valerie Dewar (Bridegroom.) Best poster: “Labour Daily,” Royce Doyle. Special prize: Original Maori, Ria Page. The committee wish to thank the judges of the costumes and all those who gave donations and helped to make the party such a success.
