- —♦ MEETING AT PARKVALE. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the monthly meeting of the Parkvale Women’s Institute Mrs N. Peacock presided. A successful “Bring and Buy” stall was held, and the proceeds to be added to the funds. Several apologies for absence were received. Small gifts were presented to Mrs and Miss Taylforth prior to their leaving the district. The monthly competitions resulted as follows: —Senior: Cream puffs, Mrs Roberts, 1; Miss Martin, 2; Mrs J. Rayner, 3. Best bloom: Mrs J. Rayner, 1; Mrs Williams, 2; Mrs H- Rayner, 3. Junior: Infant’s vest, Misses S. Rayner, 1; J. Warrington, 2; A. Williams, 3. Buttonhole: Miss J. Warrington, 1; Miss S. Rayner, 2; Miss A. Williams, 3. A short sketch was given by the Drama Circle and much appreciated. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames J. Rayner, J. James, Roberts and Miss Martin. The singing of the National Anthem brought the meeting to a elose. TE ORE ORE MEETING. At the Te Ore Ore School on Tuesday night, Mrs Fouhy (president) presided over the monthly meeting of the Te Ore Ore Institute. The Prayer for Peace was read by the president who later welcomed the visitors and members. Apologies for absence were received from Miss Admore and Mrs N. Haeata. Members then read the “Aspiration,” followed by the singing of the “Ode to Friendship.” The president gave the meeting its motto for the month, “Keep Smiling.” It was agreed that the Te Ore Ore Institute enter in the potato competition. Potatoes would be donated by a member when the most suitable type for the district had been chosen. A letter from Miss D. Griffin, assistant secretary-treasurer, was read, in which she stated that it was with regret that she and her sister would be unable to attend future meetings. Miss N. West agreed to fill the position. As another member of the committee, Mrs Anaru, is unable to attend meetings, Mrs Albert was nominated to take her position. Miss Sellar, of Masterton, gave the meeting a most interesting demonstration on the making of a macrame tray. On the motion of Mrs Fouhy, a hearty vote of thanks was passed to Miss Sellar. A roll call, “My Favourite Verse of Poetry,” brought a varied and interesting response. A game in the form of a competition “Road Signs,” conducted by Miss Bliss resulted in Miss Sellar being first, Mrs Fouhy second, Mrs J. Haeata, Mrs McDonald and Mrs Doig third and Miss N. West fourth. A much-appreciated supper was then served by the hostesses, Mrs Brunton, Miss Robinson and Mrs Karaitiana. Miss Sellar judged the monthly competitions, the results being as follow: —Best flower: Mrs McLauchlan, 1; Mrs Fouhy, 2; Miss Bliss, 3. The judge then picked the four best entries from the supper cloth design competition. By popular vote they were placed: Miss E. M. Bliss, 1; Mrs McDonald, 2; Mrs M. Haeata, 3. A design sent by Miss Admore was highly commended. An enjoyable meeting was brought to a close with the singing of the National Anthem.
