LANSDOWNE SCHOOL
MEETING OF COMMITTEE.
IMPROVEMENT OF GROUNDS
The usual meeting of the committee was held in the school last evening. Mr H. E. Pither presided, and there were also present, Messrs Faulknor. Fly, Donovan, McGregor, McFarlane and the headmaster (Mr Jones). Apologies were received from Messrs Logan and Ross. Accounts amounting to £l3 15s lid were passed for payment. A donation of 10s 6d towards the school funds was received from the Wairarapa Hockey Association, and the secretary was directed to express the committee's appreciation in connection therewith. The headmaster's report was received and adopted. The roll number was shown as 275 with a satisfactory attendance. Miss R. Drummond had been appointed to the staff as a relieving teacher in place of Mrs Allen. Hot cocoa was being served to the pupils at midday and was much appreciated. Work on the grounds was being pushed steadily ahead and a live hedge had now been planted throughout the length of the front boundary. A stone wall and netting fence had been erected at the southwestern corner of the grounds. The main play area had been newly gravelled, and it was proposed to spread further gravel in front of the bicycle shed. Generally the whole of the grounds were showing a very pleasing improvement. A motion of sympathy in the loss of his father was passed to Mr H. H. Daniell, past chairman of the committee for many years. Messrs McFarlane and Donovan were appointed a visiting committee for the ensuing month.
