CENTRAL SCHOOL

MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the Masterton Central School committee was held last night. Mr J. E. MeV. Calwell presided, also present being Messrs C. J. Braggins. A. V. Dixon, W. R. Nicol. A. Newman. J. H. Cole, A. J. Gibbs. F. Wesney and G. R. Beecroft. The headmaster Mr E. G. Coddington submitted a report showing the roll attendances to be excellent in view of the rough weather. The Central School roll was 515. average attendance 464 or 90 per cent. At June 30 the roll number was 514, and the average attendance 485, or 94 per cent. The Side school roll was 73, average attendance 62.9 or 86 per cent compared with 72. 67.9 or 94 per cent on June 30.

A letter was received from Mr J. Cole concerning an accident sustained by his son while playing at the East School. The committee recommended him to communicate with the Education Board and submit a detailed report. Messrs Beecroft and Dixon reported on the successful dances being organised by the Parents’ Association. The secretary was instructed to write to the Fire Brigade a letter of appreciation for the prompt services rendered recently.

Expressions of sympathy were passed with the relatives of the late Mr C. E. Daniell and to Mr P. H. Shaw in his bereavement. The late Mrs Shaw was a valued member of the Parents Association.

Messrs Newman. Nicol and Gibbs were appointed a visiting qonunittee for the month.
