POULTRY SHOW

A SPLENDID DISPLAY AT CARTERTON YESTERDAY. LARGE NUMBER OF EXHIBITORS

The second annual show of the Wairarapa Poultry, Pigeon and Cage Bird Society is being held in the King’s Theatre. Carterton. The exhibition opened yesterday and a very busy time was experienced by the judges. Messrs J. Smith, ol Palmerston North, who is judging Fancy and Utility birds. R. A. Williams. Mangatainoka. (Old English Game and Bantams) and Mr J. M. Nicholls. Carterton (Pigeons and Cage Birds) and Mrs A. F. Pink. Home Industries. Over four hundred birds from all parts of the North Island were penned and the task of the adjudicators was a difficult one, the competition being very keen. Yesterday the weather conditions were unfavourable, but despite this there was a fairly good attendance of the public. This afternoon there were many visitors tithe show and tonight the patronage ol the public should be large. There arc many splendid birds in the show and lovers of poultry, pigeons and canaries should not miss the opportunity o! giving the show their support tonight.

The executive committee, Messrt Geo A. Edge (chairman). J. Wilson. J. M. Stent, P. Regan, Mr and Mrs C. McPhee and Miss Taucher, did excellent work and assisted by the Society’s energetic secretary, Mr O. Anderson, deserve great credit for the successful organisation and carrying out of the show.

The North Island championships wore won as under:- —Black Red Old English Game, Mr W. Harding, of Master’ton, who exhibited a splendid specimen of the class: Old English Game Bantams, Master Ray Scott, of Hastings; Tumbler Pigeons, C. P. W. Jensen. Carterton. Those who gained special prizes were: Chapman Cup value £3 3s. most points in Minorcas. P. H. Mummery. Palmerston North: Kinoale Cup, value £3 3s, best utility White Leghorn (female), H. Goodin Petone; S. A. Mills Cup, value £3 3s. for most points in Rhode Island Red G. A. Edge, Carterion; Meadow and Sons trophy, value £1 Is. , for best pullet, reared on Sturdy Mash, W. Harding, Masterton; best Old English Game, Society’s cash prize 10s 6d, W. Harding. Masterton: J. H.
