The friends of Mr H. Daken. of Mt Bruce, will regret to hear that he is seriously ill in the Masterton Hospital. Mr W. E. Halo, Turua, was unanimously re-elected chairman of the New Zealand Dairy Board at its statutory annual meeting yesterday. Dr Graham Cowie, of Masterton, has been appointed a lieutenant. Central Military District, and has been attached to the 2nd Field Ambulance for training. The Hon. Mr Justice Johnston will make his headquarters in Wellington and take Supreme Court work there, after the coming Supreme Court session in Hamilton. After more than half a century in the drapery business, Mr W. Simm, manager of the D.1.C., Limited, Wellington, has_ announced his retirement. He has been manager of the firm for the past 27 years. As a mark of respect to the late Mr C. E. Daniell, the weekly meeting of the Masterton Rotary Club today was adjourned after luncheon. A motion of sympathy to the president of the club, Mr H. H. Daniell, and to Messrs A. H. Daniell and E. M. Hodder, members of the club and to other members of the family and relatives was carried in silence. The funeral of the late Mr W. D. Currie took place in Masterton yesterday afternoon, the service at the chapel and the graveside being conducted by Major J. D. B. Mahaffie. of the Salvation Army. The pall-bearers, who included representatives of the Masterton Municipal Band and friends and relatives were: Messrs G. Hutchinson, R. O’Brien, R. Davies, W. Prescott, J. Cosgrove and R. Currie. Reference to the work done for the Plunket Society and the community as a whole by the late Mr C. E. Daniell was made by the Mayor (Mr T. Jordan) at the annual meeting of the Masterton branch of the Plunket Society yesterday. “Nothing was too small for Mr Daniell’s interest,” Mr Jordan stated. “Nothing escaped his attention. He was one of the best fathers in the land and this society has lost a friend indeed.” It Was decided to forward to Mr Daniell’s family a letter of sympathy and of appreciation of the work he had done for the society.
