WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

MEETING AT NIREAHA

("Times-Age” Special.)

At the monthly meeting of the Nireaha Women's Institute, Mrs Shannon presided over a good attendance of members. The motto for the day was "All Work and No Play makes Jack a Dull Boy," and the roll-call. "Favourite Cake Recipe.” An invitation was received from the Hastwells Institute to a social afternoon on July 19.

A demonstration of rucked cushion making was given by Mrs Davis, and this was much appreciated by all present and proved most instructive. Mesdames Petersen and J. Drysdale acted as hostesses for the afternoon. Competitions resulted as follow: Butter pastry: Mrs Wilkin, 1; Mrs Petersen, 2. Smocked apron: Mesdames Blewett and J. Drysdale, equal 1; Mrs Drysdale, 3. Best bloom: Mesdames Thomasen, 1; Wilkin, 2; Hawkins, 3. HOUSING LOAN BOROUGH COUNCIL DECISION. At the monthly meeting of the Eketahuna Borough Council the following resolution moved by Councillor Olsen and seconded by Councillor Ryan amending the Special Order re Housing Loan, 1939, of £l,lOO, was carried unanimously:—That the Special Order passed on the 24th day of May. 1939, authorising the raising of the Eketahuna Borough Council Worker’s Dwelling Loan, 1939, of £l,lOO, was made in pursuance of the authority of an Order-in-Council, dated the 18th day of May, 1939, New Zealand Gazette No. 34, page 1509. authorising the raising of a Loan to be known as the Eketahuna Borfough Council. Housing Loan, 1939, of £l,lOO.
