ALFREDTON TALKIES

“SPARKLES." Jessie Matthews has at last been given the opportunity to do full justice to her many talents in "Sparkles.’' which will be shown at Alfredton on Thursday, a novel, sparkling, exciting musical. The story sets a new standard for screen musicals and Jessie Matthews sings, dances and acts in a role packed with delightful comedy and dramatic action. “Sparkles” is an ideal entertainment. As an ambitious newspaper reporter, Jessie Matthews is mistaken for “Sparkles,’’ a notorious jewel thief, and the police and crooks alike, refuse to be shaken in this belief. To tell more of the story would be to spoil the film for those who have not seen it . There is plenty of excitement in the film, and the musical numbers are excellent. Playing opposite Jessie Matthews is Barry Mackay, who sings and dances for the first time on the screen. Patrons who saw him in "The Great Barrier” will look forward to seeing him again. "Sparkles" is a picture which should not be missed.
