TOWNSWOMEN’S GUILD

MEETING IN MASTERTON YESTERDAY.

TRAVEL TALK ON EGYPT.

The Masterton Townswomen’s Guild held its monthly meeting-yesterday afternoon in the Y.M.C.A. Hall. Mrs W. H. Judd presided over a large attendance of members. Mrs Judd referred to the loss sustained by the Guild by the death of Mrs Shaw, a valued member. She spoke of tiie recent bereavements of Mesdames Parsons, McGregor and Harrington. Members stood in. silence as a mark of respect and sympathy with these members. Nominations were-received for .candidates for the Executive Committee of the Dominion Federation of Townswomen’s Guilds and also for delegates to the annual conference.

A most interesting travel talk was given by Mrs V. Joseph on a trip through the Suez Canal and a visit to Egypt. She described scenes in the streets of Cairo,.and trips to therGreat Pyramids and the Sphinx. The members, accorded Mrs Joseph a vote of thanks.

Mrs Burke rendered two enjoyable vocal solos. .Buffet. afternoon tea was then served.

Mrs Judd welcomed. Miss Burtdh and presented (her with a shoulder spray. Miss Burton, in demonstrating .the choice of wallpapers showed many beautiful papers and explained the uses of the different styles and colours for the .various types of rooms. Members found much of .interest and instruction and 'showed their .appreciation in their vote of thanks. The result of the competitions was: Articles from oddments of' wool resulted, Mrs Neilson, 1: Mrs L. P. Morris, 2; Mrs Davie, 3. Sponge sandwich: Mrs Ewington, .1; Mrs Snowsill, 2.

The singing of the Guild ' Ode brought the meeting to .a close.
