Hack and Hunters’ Steeplechase. Bridegroom who scored a good win in the' Mariri Hack and Hunters’ Steeplechase was never further back than second and always had the measure of the opposition. Rapa Waiata issued a determined challenge at the last fence, but could not stop with Bridegroom. Hanover led most of the way and was a good fourth. Lactose lost a lot of ground in the first round and did well to fill third place. Woburn Handicap. Scratchings obviated the necessity of two divisions in the Woburn Handicap. Blonde Princess was at home, on the heavy course and was going away at the finish. One of the leaders, Lttcullus Boy, just managed to outstay Viracious for second place. The latter weakened over the last half-furlong. War cloud came home solidly for fourth place and Erlick and Wild Talk were closer at the finish than at any other stage. Vittoria Hurdle Handicap. Jewelled Girdle and Toper were always to the fore in the Vittoria Hurdles and the former proved the better stayer to win nicely. Toper showed considerable improvement and was just outstayed. Vantoon scored a creditable third. Mount Vai was a long: way back when he toppled over. Lustra! and General Ruse showed no life, the latter being well back. Stewards’ Handicap. Always well placed the favourite, Amigo, scored a good win in the Stewards' Handicap. Fleet Street went well and only a neck separated these two at the finish. Sporting Gift was prominent throughout while Prince Acre fought on gamely. Rebel Mate was in the picture for five furlongs then faded away. Majority showed up. but also tired. Matoru and Counterblast were never there. Wellington Steeplechase. Turned out in perfect condition and judiciously ridden by A. E. Ellis. Survey, who went to the barrier second favourite outstayed the rest of the field in the Wellington Steeplechase to win by ten lengths. At the turn the leaders were tiring and moving up smartly Survoy had the race well in hand at the fence and won running away. He lost a dangerous opponent in Slayer, who fell just after taking the lead from All Irish and Gold Wren about a mile from home. Slayer was going well at the time and although he may have tired it looked as if he would be in the money. Power Chief had every chance but could not stay with the winner in the run home. However, Power Chief beat the others hands down. Gold Wren jumped well, but faded out. After setting a fast pace All Irish tired a long way from the post. Riotous was beaten a mile from home and was pulled up. With six furlongs to go John Charles, who had tired was also stopped. Chile ran well for most of the journey but tired over the last half mile. Trentham Hurdles. Although only his second run over the battens King Rey scored impressively in the Trentham Hurdles. When the pacemaker, Ellanui, fell at the third hurdle, he took the lead and after that there was only one horse in it. After hitting the fence near the six furlong post Loombination made a grand effort to overtake the flying leader, but had no show. Fireguard, who filled fourth position,"impressed and was going nicely at the finish. The heavy going proved too much for Royal Dance. Curie went well till he caught the bridle of Ellanui .which came off. He carried on to the end but had no show under those conditions. Whyte Handicap. Jack Tar, who scored a surprise win . in this race, was not well placed early, but came into the picture at’the turn and at the distance took charge to win running away. Alma, who came next, ■ ran a'great race after being slow away. (

Meamea came home well and just defeated Quadroon who made a bid at the false rail. Yours Truly ran a good race but could not get up. Ned Cuttie looks to be nearing form and Sly Fox with a race or two more should be in the money. Maori Song was wide at the turn and put up a creditable showing. Te Aro Handicap. Colonel Bogey, the winner in. this race, put up a fine showing after being back about seventh at the turn. Haile Selassie and Selkirk were the leaders but when asked Colonel Bogey went past in great style. Wagner was always well placed, and Bow Street came from well back to take second. The weight proved too much for Verey Lights and Happy Heels did not have, enough pace to get through.
