WAJRARAPA COMPETITIONS SENIOR DIVISION. CARTERTON IN THE LEAD. i The Wairarapa men’s and women’s hockey associations’ fixtures were advanced a stage further on Saturday last. Conditions were very fair in Masterton but light showers fell during the games at Featherston, Carterton and Greytown. Saturday saw the completion: of the first round in the senior men’s competition, with Carterton in the leading position from Hastwells. Masterton and Dalefield turned on some bright hockey at Carrington Park and Carterton were all out to win by 3/1. Hastwells and Kiwi played a very interesting game at Hastwells. The home team provided some brilliant stick work in the second spell and ran out easy winners by 7/3. In the senior women’s game Excelsior were severely tested out by Kia Ora A. College accounted for Kiwi after a very evenly contested game and Carterton won from Kia Ora B. The results were as follow: — Senior Men. Carterton beat Dalefield 3/1. Hastwells beat Kiwi, 7/3. Wesley a bye. Junior Men. College'Old Boys and Dalefield drew, 3/3. Wesley A beat Carterton B, 14/0. College A beat Grey town A, 3/0. Wesley B beat College B, 7/0. Carterton A beat Greytown B, 6/2.

Senior Women. College beat Kiwi, 2/1. Excelsior beat Kia Ora A, 3/1. Carterton bedt Kia Ora B, 3/0. Junior Women. College B.beat Featherston, 2/1. Excelsior beat College A, 3/2. College Old Girls beat Carterton. 4/0. College C beat- College D, 2/0. The positions of teams in the senior men’s competition at the end of the first round is as follows: —

TOURNAMENT ON JUNE 5. RECORD ENTRIES. Record entries have been received for the annual tournament to be held on June 5. Twenty-three visiting teams have entered this year and in all 73 teams will be competing, made up as follows:—Senior men, 22 teams; junior men, 29; senior women, 13; junior women, 9. Although play will commence at 8.45 a.m. it will be impossible to get the games over before dark at Lansdowne, and the junior ladies and several junior men’s sections will have to be held on the College grounds. The finals,, however, will be staged at Lansdowne during the afternoon.
