MEETING OF WAIRARAPA SOCIETY SPECIAL PRIZES OFFERED. POSITION OF KENNEL CLUBS. (“Times-Age” Special.) There was an excellent attendance at the monthly meeting of the Wairarapa and East Coast P. and A. Society at Carterton today, Mr R. R. Tilson presiding. Advice was received from the Wel-lington-Taranaki branch of the New Zealand Milking Shorthorn Association that subject to the usual conditions they Were donating special prizes of £1 If in the yearling bull and £1 Is in the yearling heifer classes. The branch also offered prizes of £5 5s for first, £3 3s for second and £2 2s for third, to the three breeders scoring the highest aggregate points at shows in the Wellington-Taranaki-Wairarapa area, points to be allocated by the A. and P. Association. It was decided to write and thank the Wellington-Taranaki branch for its generous offer. The Danneviirke Agricultural and PastoraJ Association w/rote’ advising that its next show would be held on February 6 and 7, 1940, and the ram fair would take place on February 8. 1940. The Woodville Agricultural and Pastoral Association advised that its 48th annual show would take place on February 3, 1940. “The local Kennel Club is requesting the Association to enter into a snecial arrangement in regard to the Kennel Club section of the show, and hand over the affiliation with the New Zealand Kennel Club,” stated a letter from the secretary of the Poverty Bay Agricultural and Pastoral Association. “This association has always held the affiliation, and the dog section has been run just on the same lines as any other section of the show, members of the Kennel Club acting as stewards and generally taking an interest in the section.” stated the letter. “We would be pleased to know whether you have any special arrangement with the Kennel Club in your district and if so what the arrangements. are, and whether they are satisfactory. “It seems to us that if the- Kennel Club’s request is granted, it may prove the Way for requests from other sections of the show, for similar treatment, and that there is some danger in giving control to outside bodies.” The secretary) Mr L. H. Smart, reported that he had advised the Poverty Bay Association that the society handled the kehhel section as it did the rest of the show. On the suggestion of the- secretary, Mr C. L. Reynolds was appointed to investigate the possibility 'of holding a pageant at the coming show. It was decided to hold the society’s annual dance at Carterton. The financial statement showed a credit balance of £699 13s 9d, and accounts passed for payment amounted to £63 17s 7d. Mr J. H. Masbii, Reid’s Line, Feildihg, was refibmihended as judge of tile Milking Shbfthorn classes at the forthcoming show by the WellingtonTaranaki branch of the New Zealand Milking Shorthorn Association.
