LONDON QUOTATIONS LAMB MARKET CONTINUES FIRM. BETTER DEMAND FOR WETHERS AND EWES. Lamb market continues firm, with prices generally better. Consumption good. Mutton market: Wethers and ewes meeting with a little better demand, with prices firmer. Beef market: Frozen beef firm; chilled beef, steady for hindquarters, weaker for fores. New Zealand porker pigs: Prices firmer on the short supplies. New Zealand baconer pigs: Slightly firmer. Boneless bobby veal: Good trade at the better prices. The above report was received yesterday by the Meat Board from its London office, which advises that the following are the ruling prices of wholesale quantities of the descriptions of frozen meat mentioned, and are for representative parcels of the goods sold on Thursday. Chilled beef prices are averages of the week,’ on which this list is issued. All prices are on the basis of delivered to Smithfield market. Prices for the previous week are shown in parentheses: New Zealand sheep: Crossbred wethers and/or maiden ewes, 481 b and under, 4£ (4 3-8 d); 491 b to 561 b, 3jd (33d); 571 b to 641 b, 3 3-8 d (3 3-8 d); 651 b to 721 b, 3jd (3 l-8d). Best North Island xbd lambs, 28/36, 6 7-8 d; 36/42, 6 3-Bd. North Island 2nd quality lambs, av. 30/311bs, 61d; best North Island wether sheep under 481bs, 4Jd; 48/56, 33d; 56/64, 3 3-8 d; 64/72, 3jd. North Island ewes, under 481bs, 3 3-8 d; 48/56 27-8 d; 56/64, 23d; 64/72, 2Jd. N.Z. prime ox beef, 160/220, none offering. Compared with last week’s quotations, crossbred lamb is l-8d per lb higher, wethers u/481bs and 64/721bs l-8d per lb higher; ewes, 56/641bs, l-8d per lb higher; others unchanged. The market is steady to firm all round.
