'PERSONAL ITEMS. ("Times-Age" Special.) Mr P. A. Cole, Town Clerk, will leave Carterton today en route for Hawera, where he and Mrs' Cole vzill spend holidays with their daughter and ■ son-in-law, Mr and Mrs Hastie. Mr and Mrs C. K. Goodin and family, accompanied by Mrs Goodin, Senr.. will spend the holidays at Paraparaumu. Mr and Mrs Baddiley, of Kent Street, Carterton, left yesterday for Hastings where they will spend the Christmas’ and New Year vacation with relatives. Mr and Mrs G. S. Powell, of Hamilton, arrived in Carterton today and will staying for several weeks with Mr and Mrs R. H. Every, Garrison Street. Mr and Mrs F. Taplin left by car for Napier yesterday, where they will spend the holidays.' Messrs T. Jordan, J. W. Card and D. L. Taverner, Mayors of Masterton. Featherston ’ and Carterton, respectively, were among the mourners at the late Mr N. R. Armstrong’s funeral yesterday. Bowling Club Competitions. Further games in the club competitions have been played as undermentioned: — Champion singles: Stent beat Callender, 19/10. Colts' singles: Bird beat Boyne, 23/9. Handicap pairs: Kilmister and Aplin (s) beat Robertson and Tucker (s), 20/18; Budd and Williams (s) beat Kilmister and Aplin (s), 26/14. Diploma in Banking. The following Carterton students passed in the diploma in banking examinations: —J. R. deNorville ( securities 2), B. C. Friend (economics and commercial and banking law II), and J. P.'Steel (book keeping and accounts). * Motor Cyclist Injured. A young man named Charles Victor Bolstead, motor cyclist, met with a serious accident while riding his motor cycle from Kahutara last evening. He was badly injured and was admitted to the Greytown Hospital in a critical condition. Postal Rush. Carterton postal officials during the present week have been working at high pressure, weighing Christmas parcels, selling stamps, attending to pensions and receiving and despatching hundreds of telegrams including Christmas greetings. The letter carriers have also had a strenuous week and have been finishing their rounds working overtime. The Postmaster, Mr Norman Boyne, reports that the business transacted this week is greater than ever before, and probably constitutes a record. Christmas Carols. The Salvation Army Band has been busy playing carols during the past few evenings. Their playing of Christmas carols has been much appreciated by residents. Postal Hours During Holidays. The following hours will be observed at the Carterton Post Office during Christmas and New. Year holidays. Monday, December 26, Tuesday, December 27, and January 2 will be observed as holidays, and the Post Office will be closed all day. No mails will be despatched or received on December 26, but mails for all offices will be despatched on December 27 and January 2, the mails closing at 7 a.m. - Inward mails will not be sorted on the above dates. The Post Office will be open for the delivery of correspondence only between 7 and 8 p.m. on the evenings of December 24 and 31. The telephone exchange will be open continuously, as usual. Motor Collision. When returning from Waikanae last evening, \Vhere they had been employed in the building of a cottage, Messrs W. Jamieson, of Dalefield, and Alex McKenzie, of Broadway, Carterton, met with an accident that fortunately was not attended with serious consequences. They were rounding a bend on the Mungaroa Hill when a collision occurred with a car travelling in the opposite direction. Both cars were damaged. Mr Jamieson received a few bruises and Mr McKenzie numerous cuts about the face and head from flying glass from the windscreen.. They were both attended by Dr R. N. Campbell. Their injuries are not serious. The driver of the other car was also slightly injured and shaken. Late Mr Armstrong’s Funeral. Many beautiful wreaths were received at the funeral of the late Mr Neville R. Armstrong. Among them were tributes from the Wairarapa Terminating Building Society; Liverpool. London and Globe Insurance Go.; Ring Proprietary Co.. Auckland: Tradesmen’s Association, Carterton; ••Tirnes-Age" Staff. Masterton; N.Z. National Party: Totara Lodge Druids, and a number from personal friends of the deceased. Many telegrams and letters of sympathy have been received by the late Mr Armstrong's widow from all parts of New Zealand.
