SCHOOL CRAFTS

DISPLAY AT GLADSTONE EXHIBITS OF HIGH STANDARD. COMPLETE LIST OF AWARDS. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the October meeting of the Gladstone Women's Institute the local schools displayed their arts and crafts which were entered in the recent annual competition. Institute members also held a display of work which interested the children and them parents. The children's work was of a very high standard. The cookery in particular would have won credit in any adult show. The exhibits which attracted most notice and praise were paper macho dolls (beautifully made and dressed), Maori flax work, woodwork, knitting, and coloured brush work. A new feature of the display was the work of the local pupils of the Correspondence School, which was for exhibition only. Next year it is hoped that these children will enter in the competition. Institute members served afternoon tea to the children, their teachers, parents and friends. The schools concerned in the exhibition were Gladstone, Te Whiti, Longbush and Poro Poro.
