AN ALLEGED THREAT

NATIONAL PARTY PAMPHLET CHALLENGE BY MR J. ROBERTSON The largest meeting ever held in the Tiraumea Hall was addressed on Thursday night by Mr J. Robertson, Labour candidate for the Masterton seat. Mr Hansen presided. Mr Robertson spoke for over two. hours and answered a number of questions. Dealing particularly with a pictorial pamphlet issued by the National Party, Mr Robertson said it contained a direct threat that if the Labour Party were elected on the vote of the people, those opposed were prepared to plunge New Zealand into civil war to prevent the will of the people being given effect to. , He considered it a declaration of a direct threat to democracy and he challenged the National Party to repudiate it. Mr Reg Kebbell, speaking on behalf of the Alfredton branch, said they did repudiate it. Mr Robertson was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for his address. MEETING AT PONGAROA. MR. ROBERTSON WELL RECEIVED. Last evening Mr Robertson addressed a meeting of about 150 electors at Pongaroa, when he received a most attentive hearing throughout. A vote of thanks and of confidence in the Labour Government was carried unanimously.
