BOOKMAKER FINED
A DUNEDIN CASE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, October 7. “I understand that he is not a member of the Bookmakers’ Association,” said Chief-Detective Holmes in the Magistrates’ Court this morning, when Alfred Driscoll, aged 55, admitted a charge of carrying on the business of a bookmaker. Chief-Detective Holmes told the court that for some months Driscoll had been carrying on a small bookmaking business. His premises were searched and a record of 32 bets covering £2l 7s 6d was found, with two double charts. He had been betting in hotels and at his private residence. An inspection of his premises indicated that he had a well-established bookmaking business. Driscoll was fined £l5.
