NATIONAL ANTHEM

SUPERSEDED IN SOUTH AFRICA.

CAPE TOWN NEWSPAPER’S PROTEST. CAPE TOWN, June 1. , English-speaking South Africans are indignant at the playing of “Die Stem,” the anthem of the Dutch South Africans, at yesterday’s Union Day military parades, while “God Save The King” was omitted. A leading article in the “Cape Times” says that “Die Stem” has definitely taken the place of “God Save The King.” It is now used, not as a joint anthem, but has superseded “God Save The King” even at ceremonies where the British anthem would clearly be more appropriate. The newspaper urges that the matter should be righted without delay.
