MASTERTON HARRIERS
ANNIVERSARY MEETING TEAMS FOR SATURDAY The Masterton Harrier Club will celebrate its 26th anniversary with a sports meeting on the Park Oval on Saturday next. The club’s secretary, Mr R. Bell, has been advised by the Scottish and Wanganui clubs, that they will send strong teams, while harriers will also be present from the Dannevirke, Palmerston North and Woodville Clubs. In the Scottish club’s team there will be two Ex-New Zealand Cross Country representatives in A. L. Stevens and J. Riddington. A. L. Stevens was captain of the last New Zealand Cross Country team to visit Sydney, and which competed in the Australasian Cross Country Championship. J. Riddington and W. A. C. Pullar (now a member of the local club) were also members of the same team.
It is expected that C. W. Weller, Cross Country Champion for the last two years, will also be present. The following will be the Club’s officials for Saturday:—Starter, W. S. L. Dickson; timekeepers, J. Buckton, L. S. Nicol; call steward, L. A. Keats; judges, S. V. Gooding, J. Cairns and A. Talbot; referee, J. V. Dolan; superintendent, J. J. Hunter; track stewards, A. Spicer and G. Gregory, snr.; recording steward, W. Pointon. The following will be the club’s teams for Saturday:—Five miles scratch race; first team:—G. Gregory, C. Wright, R. Shaw, G. Frederickson; second team: —C. K. Long, R. Warren, H. Harris, C. Ross; third team, H. Carle, J. Baikie, C. Pringle, J. Liddall. One mile steeplechase:—J. Warham, G. Sutherland, W. Pullar. Quarter-mile Relay (4 x 110yds):— First team: R. Gully, F. H. Long, G. Sutherland, W. Pullar; second team, R. Shaw, C. K. Long, J. Baikie, G. Gregory; third team, H. Harris, I'. Shaw, H. Carle, C. Ross; fourth team, C. Wright, G. Frederickson, J. Warham, R. Warham; fifth team, J. Haise, Cook, J. Pringle, C. Pringle. Harriers should bring extra sweaters and flannels.
