ANGLO=ITALIAN PACT
UNITED STATES OFFICIAL VIEW. DISPUTE WITH PRESIDENT DENIED BY MR HULL. WASHINGTON, May 11. , The Secretary of State, Mr Cordell Hull, taking cognisance of persistent Press reports alleging that his dissatisfaction with President Roosevelt’s statement on the Anglo-Italian pact on April 19 is so great that he contemplates resigning, issued a formal statement branding the matter as “absurd and fantastic.” Mr Hull insisted that he was heartily in accord with the President.
President Roosevelt, in his statement on April 19, said his Government “has seen the conclusion of the agreement between Britain and Italy with sympathetic interest, because it is proof of the value of peaceful negotiations.”
